Frederik & Mary made a three day (working) visit to London, mainly for the launch of the Hans Christian Andersen year, which really started in 2005.
On their first day in the British capital, the couple visited Tate Modern, where they saw a new installation of Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, followed by a private tour of the museum.
In the City architect Lord Norman Foster showed them around the Swiss Re Tower (the gherkin).
Finally the crown prince couple opened a new exhibition at the Royal Academy, with works that belong to the Danish Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. For this they were joined by Danish culture minister Brian Mikkelsen and his wife Eliane Wexsøe, as well as the Duke of Gloucester and the Danish-born Duchess of Gloucester.
After the opening ceremony and a tour of the museum, a gala dinner took place.
The couple received artwork by Scottish painter John Ballany, an acquaintance of Mary's father.
Mary wore a new dress by Hugo Boss.
