Visit to Berlin: day 2

8 November 2004

After their day off in Berlin, Frederik & Mary had a day of official duties that evolved around the Hans Christian Andersen bicentenary that would take place in 2005.

They visited the Alte Nationalgalerie, which houses a prestigious collection of 19th century art, and an exhibition of contemporary works put together by German collector Friedrich Christian Flick.

There was an official welcome at the city hall. The couple was accompanied by Mary's lady-in-waiting, countess Victoria Bernstoff-Gyldensteen.

They also unveiled a painting by Olafur Eliasson at the Danish embassy.

Frederik appointed 6 Germans as HC Andersen ambassadors.

At night  Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit hosted a reception for Frederik & Mary.
