Graasten Holidays

After holidaying in the Aarhus area (Marselisborg) and in Skagen, Mary, Frederik and their two children continued their Danish holidays at Graasten Castle where the spent another week.

They were joined by queen Margrethe, prince Henrik, princess Benedikte, princess Alexandra Berleburg and her two children, Richard and Ingrid von Pfeil. 

The family was seen at Legoland, and riding their horses.

A day before Joachim's wedding

Frederik & Mary were spotted in Graasten Slot's park with Carina Axelsson and crown princess Victoria of Sweden - who were staying at the castle ahead of prince Joachim's wedding to Marie Cavallier, a day later in the nearby town Møgeltønder.

After a half an hour walk they went back inside.

Gråsten Slot

Each summer the Danish royals gather at Graasten castle, in the small town Gråsten (about 4.000 inhabitants) in Jylland (the south of Denmark), where they spend at least a few days with queen Margrethe and prince Henrik.

The palace was buit around 1600, replacing an earlier hunting lodge. For centuries it was owned by various noble families untill the Danish state purchased and restaured it in 1935. They offered it to be used by king Frederik IX and his wife, queen Ingrid who loved it and used it as a summer residence. This tradition has been maintained by their daughter, the current queen Margrethe II.

The chapel of Graasten castle is the only part of the estate that's open to the public.

Graasten holidays: Legoland + concert

Frederik & Mary took Christian to Legoland. They were joined by Alexandra von Berleburg and her two children, Richard and Ingrid.

Mary told the press Christian likes to play with Duplo and builds high stacks with it.

Mary wore a new jacket by Heartmade.

Her new earrings were by Marianne Dulong.

In the evening queen Margrethe hosted a classical concert at the chapel of Graasten castle for which the family members got together.

Mary wore a new dress by Hugo Boss.

She wore her monogrammed diamond Cenius & Bach earrings with a new, amethyst pendant.

Graasten holidays: riding

late July - early August 2007

 Frederik and Mary spent the last part of their holidays in Graasten. They were often seen riding their own horses, that had been transported to Graasten for the holidays.

They rode their bikes to get to the stables and back to Graasten castle.

Mary rode every morning.
