Visit to New York: day three

1 February 2005

Mary & Frederik's day started with a visit to the Public Library (Manhattan) where literary critic Harold Bloom was honoured for his work on HC Andersen's writings.

After that the Danish delegation went to the Hans Christian Andersen School in Harlem where they presided a storytelling contest. 8 year old Reagan Walker won the contest and was rewarded with a trip to Denmark for her and her family.

At night there was a gala to celebrate the HC Andersen year, at the Public Library. Mary wore a new gown by Alexander McQueen.

Her hair & make-up was done by her own artist, Søren Hedegaard (throughout this trip).

She wore a new, huge diamond and aquamarine ring.

Among the guests were HC Andersen ambassadors Helena Christensen and Connie Nielsen, both Danish. Connie Nielsen's partner (at the time), Lars Ulrich - drummer of Metallica - was also present.

In the background you can catch a glimpse of Victoria Bernstorff-Gyldensteen.

This gala was the end of both their holiday in New York and the official side of the trip. The day after the couple was back in Denmark.
