Margrethe 70: Another Exhibition

For more than a week Queen Margrethe II's upcoming 70th birthday was celebrated with a large number of festive events in Denmark, culminating in a various galas. Mary was at the very start of her third pregnancy, expecting twins. The news hadn't been made public yet.

9 April 2010

At 15:00 the crown prince couple joined queen Margrethe & prince Henrik for the opening of another exhibition, this time at Frederiksborg Slot in Hillerød. "Dronning af Danmark"  portrayed the official and private life of the queen and her place in Danish history.

Mary wore a new top and a new skirt, both by Heartmade. Her new pumps were by Miu Miu and her new coat by Prada.

Around this time Mary's third pregnancy started. At this stage it was still very private, and the couple possibly wasn't aware yet they would be having twins.

Unveiling a new portrait of herself

7 April 2006

Crown princess Mary was accompanied by her husband to unveil her first official portrait in Denmark, at Frederiksborg Slot in Hillerød which houses the Museum of National History.

The Museum commissioned the work and selected the artist. They asked for an informal portrait of the new crown princess.

Australia had already honoured Mary with an official portrait by Jiawei Shen.

The portrait was painted by Australian Ralph Heimans, who lives in Paris and also officially portrayed queen Elizabeth II in 2012.

Heimans started working on the commission in May 2005. He described Mary as a regal, distinguished presence, a confident young professional with a strong chatacter. The painter flew to Denmark 5 times to have sittings with Mary. During her pregnancy the work had to be postponed a while.

It was also the debut of Caroline Heering as the crown princess's new lady-in-waiting.
