IOC Congress: Final Reception

At 16:00 the crown prince couple attended the concluding reception of the IOC Congress at Tivoli, accompanied by Mary's lady-in-waiting Tanja Doky.







Earlier that day Frederik's 3 year networking efforts to become an IOC member had paid off when he was officially elected in a ceremony at Bella Center with 77 votes against 9. The crown prince’s candidature to a politicized organisation with a dubious reputation had been the subject of much criticism and debate in the Danish media.

IOC Congess: EOC Event

At 19:00 crown prince Frederik and crown princess Mary hosted a European Olympic Committee Event at the Carlsberg Museum. The networking event included a dinner and beer tasting. It ended at 22:00.


Princess Anne was also present.

Meeting the Obamas + IOC Congress

2 October 2009

US President Barack Obama joined his wife Michelle in Copenhagen for a flash visit. The couple was received at Christiansborg Slot. While the president had a meeting with PM Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the first lady was given a tour by the regent couple and the crown prince couple.








At 18:30 crown prince Frederik & crown princess Mary attended the IOC Congress at Bella Center where the location of the 2016 Olympics was anounced - Rio de Janeiro.

IOC Congress: Luncheon & Opening Ceremony

The International Olympic Comittee Congress was held in Copenhagen in 2009.

At 13:00 the queen, prince Henrik and the crown prince couple hosted a luncheon at Amalienborg Slot for the heads of state and high profile guests who were attending the IOC congress. A big focus was on American first lady Michelle Obama.









At 17:15 the opening ceremony of the IOC congress started at Copenhagen's Opera House.

Chicago's mayor, Richard Daley and Oprah Winfrey.

Princess Anne, grand duke Henri of Luxembourg, crown prince Willem-Alexander of Holland and the former king & queen of Greece.




Prince Albert II of Monaco & Michelle Obama.



King Juan Carlos & queen Sofia of Spain with Pelé.



The royals arrived by barge from Amaliehave as usual.




Caroline Heering acted as lady-in-waiting.


Mary carried a new clutch by Yves Saint Laurent.





IOC chairman Jacques Rogge.


After the ceremony queen Margrethe & prince Henrik left, while Frederik & Mary stayed on for the reception.
