State Visit to Vietnam: Day 1

1 November 2009

Queen Margrethe II, prince Henrik, crown prince Frederik and crown princess Mary made a 6 day state visit to Vietnam - Henrik's childhood home country. After the official 6 day program, the royals would stay on for another 3 days making private trips and visits.

It was the first time the crown prince couple joined the queen on a foreign state visit and Mary's first visit to Vietnam. Frederik did visit Vietnam privately before with his then girlfriend Maria Montell.

At 15:40 local time, the Danish royals made a bike-taxi tour in historic Hanoi. They stopped at the house where prince Henrik had lived as a child.

At 20:00 the Danish royals attended an official dinner at the Danish embassy.

Mary wore a new Hugo Boss dress.

Tanja Doky was with them as lady-in-waiting, master of ceremony Christian Eugen-Olsen and chief of court Per Thornit were also present for this state visit.

Meanwhile Mary's father, John Donaldson was in Denmark, staying at Kancellihuset with Christian and Isabella (helped by nannies) while their parents were abroad. Not long before him, Jane Stephens had visited as well. The pictures below were taken on the same day, when John and the children watched the Hubertus Hunt at Dyrehaven. Princess Benedikte was with them.
