F & M in Russia: reburial of empress Maria Feodorovna

28 September 2006

Crown prince Frederik and crown princess Mary represented Denmark at the reburial of their ancester in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

First a Russian orthodox ceremony took place at Saint Isaac's Cathedral.

The crown prince couple was accompanied by Caroline Heering, Mary's lady-in-waiting.

The actual reburial was held afterwards at Saint Peter and Saint Paul's Cathedral. Frederik and Mary cast Danish soil on Maria Feodorvna's coffin. Queen Margrethe had suggested to use soil from Dagmar's rose garden at her home in Hvidøre, where she'd spent the last years of her life. She had tended to the garden herself.

Other guests were king Constantine of Greece, prince Michael of Kent and his wife Marie Christine.

Afterwards they attended a reception.

Mary wore new pumps by Pedro Garcia.

Mary was in the first stage of her pregnancy with Isabella. The news hadn't been made public yet, but reporters had remarked Mary felt unwell during the ceremony. In the video it's also clear she had to lean on Frederik's arm.

F & M in Russia: Expo + reception

27 September 2006

Crown prince Frederik and crown princess Mary made a two day visit to Russia, to attend the official reburial of Danish princess Dagmar - who became empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia through marriage. This was only five days after Mary's two day visit to the Czech Republic.

On the first day the couple and Foreign Secretary Per Stig Møller opened an exhibition at the Hermitage museum, dedicated to the 19th century Danish court painter Lauritz Tuxen.

Mary was wearing a new suit by Elise Gug.

At night there was a reception aboard the ship Ebsen Snare for those attending the reburial.
