Queen Margrethe, prince Henrik and the crown prince couple attended a mass at Holmens Kirke for the very first Danish Flag Day, a new tradition honouring the Danish soldiers who were killed abroad.
Mary wore new pumps, of the Danish brand by Larin.
Caroline Heering acted as lady-in-waiting for Mary.
At 17:00 crown princess Mary attended a Student Revue performance in Copenhagen, in which she was made a member of the Revue.
This independent company, with semiprofessionel or amateur actors works for free. It was named 'Royal Mayestais Acteurs' by King Christian X in the 1920s, when he was active in the Student Society.
She was accompanied by Carina Axelsson and lady-in-waiting, Tanja Doky. Carina & Gustav were staying at Kancellerihuset for prince Joachim's upcoming stag do.
Mary wore a new ring by Marianne Dulong.
She was presented with a membership sash of KMA by the president.
As tradition apparantly dictates, Mary had to be on the stage herself in order to become an honorary member. She had two lines:
Mary: "We have incidentally received the results of the text message vote among the audience".
Actress: "Oh,... What was the result"?
Mary: 120 votes were cast. 100 were blank and 20 said: Don't know".
And she had to answer 2 questions correctly.
Mary was then presented with the ribbon of revue by the president of the student revue, Søren Thorborg.
Crown princess Mary was accompanied by her husband to unveil her first official portrait in Denmark, at Frederiksborg Slot in Hillerød which houses the Museum of National History.
The Museum commissioned the work and selected the artist. They asked for an informal portrait of the new crown princess.
Australia had already honoured Mary with an official portrait by Jiawei Shen.
The portrait was painted by Australian Ralph Heimans, who lives in Paris and also officially portrayed queen Elizabeth II in 2012. Heimans started working on the commission in May 2005. He described Mary as a regal, distinguished presence, a confident young professional with a strong chatacter. The painter flew to Denmark 5 times to have sittings with Mary. During her pregnancy the work had to be postponed a while.
It was also the debut of Caroline Heering as the crown princess's new lady-in-waiting.
For the first time, the crown princess hosted her own new year's court at Amalienborg palace in Copenhagen.
More modern than the ones hosted by the queen, it's really a reception for Mary's patronages where Mary has a 10 minute talk with every association present. It's also a networking opportunity. This has since become an anual tradition.
