Danish Design Visit to USA: Day 1

At 10:00 Frederik & Mary were given an architecture guided tour in Chicago, Illinois.









Followed by a visit at 11:30 to Chicago’s mayor, Richard Daley and his wife.

In the afternoon the couple participated in a Danish Design event in Chicago with works of Louis Poulsen, Bang & Olufsen and Georg Jensen.


Mary wore a new jacket by Malene Birger.


Caroline Heering and Per Thonrit were with Mary on this week long visit, as were a maid and a servant.






At 19:30 there was a private dinner with guests.

Råd til Livet + Rare Disorders

Crown princess Mary was present at Nykredit in Copenhagen for the launch of a new Mary Fonden project, to help women suffering from domestic violence  with free legal advice. The project was a joint effort of the Mary Foundation, Nykredit and Mødrehjælpen.





Later the same day, Mary recorded a video message for her patronage, Rare Disorders Denmark.

New Year's Reception for Mary's Patronages

At 11:00, crown princess Mary arrived at  Christian VIII's palace of Amalienborg to host her own new year's reception.


At the Riddersalen guests were treated to champagne and cake, while Mary went round to greet the representatives of her then 22 patronages.


The reception lasted for an hour and a half.

Crown princess Mary visited Kolding to present a new "Free of Bullying" school pack at Vonsild School.





Mary was accompanied by Mimi Jacobsen of Save the Children Denmark who were the original founders of this project.


The crown princess was wearing a new Prada jacket.

Crown princess Mary officially launched the first project of the Mary Foundation: the anti buyllying project at the Peder Lykke School in Amager, Copenhagen.








Caroline Heering acted as lady-in-waiting.


The campaign, based on an existing Australian model, was supported by the Ministry of Education and over time implemented in many Danish schools.

Musica Nuptialis

At 16:00 crown princess Mary and crown prince Frederik were at the Royal Library of Copenhagen.

Det Kongelige Bibliotek officially presented them their wedding gift (2,5 years after the wedding): the CD 'Musicia Nuptialis', 16th century motets that were recorded in 2004.





Mary wore new gold and brown quartz earrings: the "Savannah" model by Georg Jensen.




The princely couple were again in the company of their close friend Caroline Heering, who was acting as Mary's lady-in-waiting at the time.


Mary was in the first stage of her pregnancy with Isabella. The news hadn't been made public yet.
