Visit to Japan: day 1

18 April 2005

After Thailand, the crown princely couple flew to Japan where they performed a 3-day official visit, in the company of representatives of the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

On the first day Mary visited Tokyo's Medical University. She was accompanied by her lady-in-waiting, countess Victoria Bernstorff-Gyldensteen.

Together with Frederik she opened the new Japanese HQ of Danish pharmaceutical Novo Nordisk.

Frederik & Mary met emperor Akihito, empress Michiko and crown prince Naruhito at noon for lunch at Togu Palace.

Then it went on to a reception at the Danish embassy in Tokyo, where the couple opened the expo on Danish design "Use It". About 100 Danish residents of Japan were present and had a short talk with the couple, who stayed for an hour.

At night there was an official dinner hosted by the Danish embassy. Mary & Frederik were flanked once again by Victoria Bernstorff-Gyldensteen and Per Thornit.

Mary wore a new gala ensemble by Carolina Herrera.

Mary was expecting her first child. The news would be made public after the visit to Japan.

Fakkeltog at Fredensborg

6 April 2005

Together with queen Margrethe, prince Henrik and crown prince Frederik, crown princess Mary met the residents of Fredensborg town who had come to greet them with a traditional torch-lit walk. This happens every spring when the queen and her husband take up their residency in Fredensborg palace.

They spend the winter months in Copenhagen.

Mary wore a new coat by Day Birger et Mikkelsen.

The crown princely couple was at this time still living all year round at Kancellihuset, on the grounds of the Fredensborg estate.

Mary was pregnant with her first child. The news hadn't been made public yet.
